Advanced French Grammar

1. Framework

1.1 Parts of Speech

1.1.4 Determiners

1.1.4.5 Relative Adjectives

To form a relative adjective, we begin with a definite article, le, la, les, and affix it to quel.
lequel,
laquelle,
lesquels,
lesquelles

We use them as relative determiners, especially in literary and administrative applications. When we use a relative adjective before a noun, the resulting phrase is equivalent to a relative pronoun.

Ex.
Je lui ai envoyé un dossier, lequel dossier ne lui est jamais parvenu.
(= Je lui ai envoyé un dossier, qui ne lui est jamais parvenu.)
