(i) Cardinal Numbers



We normally use cardinal numbers as determiners. Yet, we may also use them as pronouns.


Ex, DETERMINER; PRONOUN

Marie avait invité quarante personnes. Dix sont venues.

Marie had invited forty people. Ten came.



(ii) Ordinal Numbers



We use ordinal numbers as adjectives or pronouns.


Ex, ADJECTIVE

C’est la troisième maison à droite.

It’s the third house on the right.


Ex, PRONOUN

La troisième! Vous êtes sûr?

The third one! Are you sure?
