What do Tinguely's machines got to do with us?

The parts of our lives are all working to make up the life we live. But do these parts work together? Are not the many parts of ourselves and our world so very different, and yet the machinery of our lives still seems to go on? Our relationships with loved ones might seem to work in counter-action to our professional lives, but somehow, the one without the other might not work. The two are very different, yet their functioning is forced together. The machinery of our lives is more like a Frankenstein's monster. And yet it is inconceivable any other way.

Brief Summary

Jean Tinguely created artwork-machines made of heterogeneous parts that work together differentially for some creative function or for no specific function at all, other than to be a work of art.

Points Relative to Deleuze

Tinguely's machines demonstrate a basic mechanical principle: functioning is differential and the parts of functioning things are heterogeneous. Rube Goldberg's machines show this in a slightly different way.

Below are some video clips of Tinguely's machines provided by a variety of sources. [It's better to see the higher quality version at their original location. Click on the title links to do so.]
